31 Bits on Campus: UT Knoxville

October 27th, 2011 | Comments (0)

Meet Campus Rep, Madelyn Herbert!

“I am a junior at UT Knoxville studying Communications and Psychology. I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee and I am the oldest of 5 kids. I enjoy photography, camping, cooking, reading (especially anything by Tom Robbins), listening to my dad’s old records and of course, shopping. I am a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, the Vice President (and co-founder) of Students for Education Reform Tennessee and the Special Events and Media Relations Intern for Big Brothers Big Sisters. After college, I have high hopes of following my heart to Africa and letting my path unfold there.”

Madelyn has been working hard to promote and market 31 Bits all over her campus. She brings her 31 Bits merchandise with her to Big Brothers, Big Sisters every week and continues to spread the word wherever she goes! Next week she’s setting up a booth on campus to sell bracelets and share about 31 Bits to other students, and she’s planning a jewelry party in November with her roomates!

You’re awesome, Madelyn! We are so thankful to have you on our team!

Hellen’s Business Opportunity

October 26th, 2011 | Comments (2)

Meet “Mamma Hellen”, who’s favorite memory is “the day when God joined her together with 31 Bits.” She is one of the earliest beneficiaries and has been a part of our organization for nearly 3 years!

Before Hellen came to 31 Bits, she was running a small poultry business. She raised chicks and sold them when they were fully grown. Although her plan was ambitious and potentially profitable, she did not have very much knowledge about raising chickens or running a business. During her time with this business, she lost nearly everything she had.

Through the Business Development program at 31 Bits, Hellen has learned the basics of starting and running a small business. She has built a foundation of knowledge on everything from budgeting, accounting, sales, and marketing a small business.

Two months ago, Hellen attended a field trip to a local piggery where she learned about the process of raising, mating, and selling pigs. This opened Hellen’s eyes to a business opportunity she wanted to pursue. While she is still in the early stages of developing her idea, Hellen has been working diligently with our Business Development Manager to learn how to best begin her new business venture.

Hellen will graduate from 31 Bits in late 2012 with the skills needed to start her own piggery business! Go Mamma Hellen!

It’s a Christmas sweater party- in October! So hit up grandma’s closet,  your neighbor’s garage, the local Goodwill… whatever you have to do to find a Christmas sweater.

There’ll be food, drinks, music, raffles and plenty of Christmas cheer.

We love to see what happens when organizations and business collaborate for a bigger purpose.

“Introducing GIVEN, an apparel line inspired by and solely benefitting World Vision. This new humanitarian brand reflects the belief that our capacity to GIVE is directly related to our understanding of what Jesus has GIVEN us.

Intern Spotlight: Meet Melissa!

October 18th, 2011 | Comments (0)

Hey guys, my name’s Melissa Coutsoyannopoulos! Being a part of the 31 Bits team has been such a blessing already! I currently work as the Event & Volunteer Coordinator, and I love every minute of it. Being surrounded by such passionate people, all working together towards such an amazing cause is so inspiring.

I’m a recent graduate from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM), majoring in Merchandise Marketing. I am a fashionista and I love a good bargain! I love trying to cook new dishes and bake on rainy days. A perfect day would involve lots of coffee, hot yoga, sushi, and ending it by watching a beautiful OC sunset, my favorite time of day.

I’m so grateful to be a part of such an amazing team of girls, and I’m so excited to be working with 31 Bits these next couple of months and to see what the Lord has in store!
