From Kallie: Meeting Richard

This week Ally and I had the opportunity to meet Richard, who is the husband of 31 Bits’ Designer Oyella Kevin. Richard was touring with Invisible Children for the past 3 months in Wisconsin and Michigan, and finally made it down to California!

We spent the day talking about his experiences in the US, how he was freezing the whole time and ready for Uganda’s hot weather, his new favorite food being pizza, and how enthralled he was with all of the architecture.

Richard wanted to go to a store where 31 Bits was sold because it was the one request Kevin had for him and he had not completed it yet. He said he loved her so much, and could not go home without seeing it firsthand!

We made our way to Detour in Encinitas, where Richard was able to see 31 Bits being sold.

Richard said he was now ready to go home and share all he saw with Kevin.

It was a surreal and amazing day!

Meet Mamma Hellen

Oneka Hellen is one of the oldest and wisest ladies at 31 Bits. Everyone around here calls her “Momma Hellen” and she is always the first person that the ladies seek out for advice, wisdom and encouragement. She is graduating from the program this December and is planning on raising pigs and chickens on her land and farming on her family’s land in the village. She also owns a small plot near Gulu University that she plans on renting to the university students.

Pancakes & Goodbyes

We ate our pancakes and said our goodbyes to the Spring interns this morning! These girls have all played vital roles in the 31 Bits family, and we are really going to miss them! Thank you Sarah, Carmen, Gwen and Irene for all of your hard work these past couple months!!!

Embroidery

Today we had a special training session for our new embroidery team. The ladies are working on perfecting their skills for some new upcoming products, so stay tuned!

We are especially excited for Atoo Betty, who was just promoted as the new embroidery team leader. She will be responsible for all of our embroidery samples, and overseeing the rest of the team. Congratulations Betty!
