Blackberry & Lemon Gin and Tonics

June 19th, 2013 | Comments (0)

This drink is DANGEROUS.

It’s refreshing, light, and goes down easy. Too easy. We think it’s the perfect mixed drink to serve at a Summer potluck or BBQ (or even a Summer House Party!) Don’t be fooled by how it looks, this cocktail is simple and quick. But shhh… don’t tell your friends. After one taste, they’ll think you’re a professional mixologist!

Blackberry and Lemon Gin and Tonics (recipe adapted from Spoon Fork Bacon)

Ingredients:

1 Pack of Blackberries

1 Bunch of Mint Leaves

4 Lemons

1/4 Cup of Simple Syrup

12 Ounces of Gin

Tonic Water

Ice

1. Place a handful of blackberries, a small bunch of mint leaves, the juice of one full lemon, and 1 tablespoon of simple syrup in each glass. Muddle it together.

2. Fill each glass with ice, followed by 3 ounces of gin.

3. Top the drink off with tonic water, stir, and serve!

Summer Spotlight // Laker Kevin

June 18th, 2013 | Comments (0)

We’d like you to get to know some of the ladies behind the new Summer Collection, The Bright Side of Life. These women encourage, inspire, and challenge us daily! Laker Kevin is a joyful, silly, and dedicated mother of three adorable kids. Kevin loves coming to work at 31 Bits, and the ladies have quickly become her best friends. Kevin’s accessory of choice? The Daphne bracelets!

What brightens your day? When I am healthy and able to come to work at 31 Bits.

What gives you joy? That I am able to pay for my children to go to school.

What is your favorite color? Light blue.

What makes you laugh? When my kids come back from school, crack jokes, and sing to me.

What gives you hope? Prayer.

If you’re a Country music fan, you’ve probably heard the song I Want Crazy. Every time it comes on the radio, we can’t help blasting the volume and singing along. It’s the perfect windows down, driving to the beach kind of song. We finally did some investigation on who’s behind this feel-good and catchy tune…. the rest is history.

21 year-old Louisiana native Hunter Hayes was only 16 years old when he was offered a record deal and the whirlwind of stardom began. He found himself writing music with Rascal Flatts and touring with Taylor Swift. Not a bad way to start off your musical career, right?! While not everyone enjoys Country music, we think most audiences will enjoy this song.

Just watch the video and try not to smile:

Living On The Bright Side With Melody Brandon

June 14th, 2013 | Comments (0)

Melody Brandon was well on the path to becoming a teacher, until her love for baking caused her to think twice.  She decided instead to pursue her dreams of becoming a pastry chef… And we are SO glad she did.

Melody is owner of our favorite local bakery, The Sweet and Saucy Shop, and the genius behind the successful blog, My Sweet and Saucy. Take a peak at her blog and you will see there is nothing Melody’s team can’t do… their creative and delicious desserts have even caught the eyes of Leanne Rimes, Miley Cyrus, and Oprah Winfrey!

Now, we could write all day about our favorite Sweet and Saucy treats, (we’ll do anything for the candy bar cupcake) but what we REALLY love is Melody’s contagious smile and heart to give back to her community. She gets what it means to live on the bright side of life… and here’s just a few of her favorite things!

Drink of Choice: Fresh juice! I have recently been addicted to juicing which has been lots of fun! If it is a date night though, red wine for sure… or a mojito!

Book or Magazine: I always love a good People or Us Magazine when tanning and relaxing!

Store: Anthropologie will always have my heart.

Beach Accessory: Floppy hat and my sunglasses!

Fro-yo flavor & toppings:

I have a Pinkberry addiction and LOVE their chocolate hazelnut in a waffle cone… no toppings or I feel too guilty!

Summer jam (song): I love country music, so maybe Miranda Lambert’s ”Mama’s Broken Heart”

Travel Destination (planned, or on your wish list): We are going to Hawaii in August with my whole family so I am super excited about that! My daughter and husband are both obsessed with the beach so it will be lots of fun!

Favorite 31 Bits Summer Accessory: The Havana Trim necklace:

Summer Sips // Tropical Smoothie

June 12th, 2013 | Comments (0)

There’s nothing like a cold, refreshing smoothie in the Summertime. This delicious smoothie not only tastes like a tropical vacation, it’s packed with nutrients too! Feel free to mix it up however you’d like, it would also be good with berries, pomegranate juice, or even some almond butter! Right now, we’re stuck on this tasty recipe…

TROPICAL GREEN SMOOTHIE

Ingredients:

1/2 Cup of Almond milk

1/2 Cup of Coconut water

1/2 Cup of Pineapple

1/2 Cup of Frozen Mango

1 Banana

1 Big handful of Spinach

1/2 Cup of ice

Blend up all ingredients, and enjoy- It’s like Hawaii in a glass! Cheers to a bright, healthy, and tropical Summer!

Do you have a favorite smoothie recipe? We’d love to hear it!

Cayucas has become our jam. Their pop-rock, beach-y sound is sure to be on repeat all Summer long! We currently have the song East Coast Girl on repeat… watch the video and see why!
