Nengah is one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet. When our designer, Kallie, meets with him, she never leaves empty handed. He always sends her off with local Bali food, sweet tea, or a piece of pottery. He believes in treating people well, because the kindness will come back around! He told our team: “I believe no matter what, good things will come later. There’s a ripple effect in everything you do. I believe everyone is connected.”
His specialty is creating molds for ceramics. It’s a long process, but it allows him to multiply his work with accuracy, while making items more lightweight. He is very strict about the process, allowing every piece to air dry for a very long time to ensure it’s durability. He can tell the quality of a product based on the “clinking” sound it makes when you strike it. His other specialty is painting his pottery by hand. He loves working with different colors and textures.
He has a shop where he sells his products and has three employees. The walls are lined from top to bottom with things like cups, serving bowls, vases, pinch bowls, salt and pepper shakers, and more. He creates serveware for many local restaurants.
He loves working with our designer because it allows him to try new things. When it comes to pottery, he loves taking risks and working with new designs and shapes.
